3-Pak Literature Units: SDA Favorites
Unit 1. Shepherd Warrior. Set in Bible times, this 5th/6th grade literature unit uses the story of David, the youngest son of Jesse, to teach students that BIG things can come from small packages. Students dress up, eat like a shepherd, and learn to fight a giant. Reading activities include Venn diagramming, character mapping, and re-reading for comprehension.
Unit 2. A Thousand Shall Fall. Based on a true story from World War I, this 7th/8th grade literature unit leads students to trust in the power of God. Franz Hasel is a WW I veteran of an elite German unit. Since WWI, Franz has dedicated himself to his church’s literature evangelistic work. At the beginning of WWII, he is called back into Hitler’s Nazi Army. The story examines Franz’s experience as well as the experience of his family during this time. Reading activities include comparison notes, Venn diagramming, memorization of Psalm 91, and producing a Powerpoint on the Hasels' life.
Unit 3. Survivors of the Dark Rebellion. Based upon "survivor stories" from the Old Testament, this lit unit grounds students in moral responsibility. The class learns to make an ark, herd sheep, and use a sling. Reading comprehension strategies are also included.
